The E28 BMW M5 was launched in 1985 for the European market and in 1987 for the North American market, although all North American Vehicles were titled as 1988. 1,239 M5s were built to US Specification. Though a Tan leather interior was the only official interior color choice for the US Market, a Black leather interior option was offered at the very end of production. 101 E28 M5s with a black interior were produced for North America; however, only 30 examples were produced for the US Market. Needless to say, a US Spec 1988 BMW M5 with a black interior is a rarity.
