1969 SAAB 96 COUPE for sale
Exotic Classics is proud to present this exquisite 1969 SAAB 96 Coupe (#96545675) finished in Polar White Red and Black vinyl interior. This brilliantly original 96 comes from long term ownership of a Vintage Saab Club member and the odometer shows a believer original 40,600 miles. The V4 engines runs a Weber 34ICH carburetor and Pertronix ignition, but is otherwise stock. The transmission is a 4-speed manual with column-mounted shifter. The brakes are disc up front and drum rear, and Saabs unique freewheeling feature can be engaged or disengaged.
The Saab 96 was manufactured from 1960 to 1980, initially with Saabs three-cylinder, two-stroke engine. But later cars, like this, were fitted with the Ford Taunus four-stroke V4 for better performance and to dispense with the need to mix oil with the gas. The 96 featured an aerodynamic two-door body with styling and details that could only come from Saabs aircraft manufacturing heritage. The Saab 96 was driven most famously by Erik Carlsson, in many international rallies. His most famous successes were first in the 1960, 1961 and 1962 RAC Rallies and first in the 1962 and 1963 Monte Carlo Rallies. It was these successive, top-level victories that put the Saab 96 'on the map' and established its reputation for reliability and toughness.
Our car is reported to have had one very high quality respray in the original Polar White, but the car is otherwise original. The car sports a pair of Hella driving lamps and factory mud guards, and it still has the original radio. The original window sticker is present. Look closely, in the photos and in the metal, this truly looks like a cherished 40k mile car. Drive or show with pride.
